The Pathogen genomic Diversity Network Africa (PDNA), is an independent, not-for-profit African-led scientific association of researchers from across Africa, which focusses on generating, analysing and utilising pathogen genomic diversity data to improve the health and well-being of all Africans.
Vision
A healthier Africa through harnessing the full potential of genomics research
Mission
To develop, mentor and retain African pathogen genomic expertise and excellence in order to improve health outcomes and reduce the burden of communicable diseases across Africa
Objectives
To build and retain African capacity and excellence in pathogen genomics
To bridge the gap between public health community and geneticist through effectively engaging health workers, policy makers and communities
To translated genetics and genomics data into knowledge relevant for pathogens and communicable disease control, elimination or eradication
Approach
PDNA aims to establish itself as a privileged space for the training, communication, production and transmission of genomic-specific knowledge and skills between genomics specialists, healthcare professionals and policy makers in Africa and beyond to enhance the understanding of pathogen genetic diversity and drug susceptibility status and guide impactful interventions and health policies.
